Design Rules: Culture, Colors, Banners and Fonts

The colors used in a design must be consistent with your work's general setting and in sync with the dominant culture of the market location in question.

In India, nearly 300 people work for me. The interesting thing is that these individuals' designs are based on India's culture, while we work internationally. We had a hard time convincing them not to use their culture's color themes. You must therefore consider the global audience when designing a theme for your brand. If you design a catalog for international customers, its color theme is most likely different from the one you design for the domestic market. If your audience is the market of a specific country, you need to consider that country's culture when applying color themes. Design is so important that even the audience's conditions influence the colors applied.

The design for each advertising item is formulated based on the type of audience. The first point to consider in designing a large banner is that it needs to be seen from a long distance. Therefore, you need to know what signs you should put in various parts of the banner. For example, a banner is placed where its top third has the best view, so you need to design the important points in that section. Designing a half-page ad is different from designing a full-page ad in the press because they are viewed differently. Designing a colored ad is also different from designing a black and white ad.

The next principle of a proper design is simplicity and clarity. The design should not be cramped. If you have one page, put enough material for only one page. Avoid putting 25 pages' worth of catalog on a single page, turning the design into something unintelligible and making your brand overlooked despite all the expenses of design and print. Your main message must be noticeable in the design.

Another point is the font used in the design. Some people use weird fonts. There should not be more than two or three different fonts in a design. Consider that the goal of design is to convey a message, and that you are not practicing how to work with fonts.
