Phase Two: Publishing and Promoting a Book

Inside Hillary’s office, Hillary sits and talks on the phone. On her desk are various promotional artworks for Steve’s book and press releases. There’s also a copy of the local newspaper, and an article about Steve is on the page. “Yes, everything came in today; I’ll have Steve look them over and then we’ll head out,” Hillary says. “Oh, don’t you worry, Steve is very excited about the whole process.

If this book does half as well as I expect, he’s going to be a very wealthy man, and he deserves every bit of it.” Just then, there is a knock at Hillary’s office door. “Ah, I bet that’s my boy now. So, got to go,” Hillary announces. Hillary hangs up and rises, quickly smoothing down her hips, and throwing her head back to shake her hair into some sort of place.

“Come in!” She says. Steve enters and crosses to Hillary, but she doesn’t embrace him. She gestures at the items on her desk. “Hey, Hillary, is everything... going okay?” Steve asks. “Oh, is this all of the promotional stuff?” Steve asks, looking at Hillary. “Yes, it is. You ready to head to the bookstore?” Hillary asks. “Yeah, okay. Wow, so, this is it, isn’t it?” “That it is, Steve.

We’re in phase two - the publishing and promoting, and that’s a huge commitment of time, money, resources and effort! Now, are you prepared for that; are you ready to give 110% to this book project?” Hillary asks. “I am!” He says finally sounding confident. “Then, let’s go!” Steve and Hillary head out the door. A beautiful lake surrounded by grass, a meandering path, and lovely shade trees mark the better neighborhoods of Orlando where Hillary lives.

Steve rides in Hillary’s car as she drives along the lake. People walk, jog and ride bikes around the area as Hillary guides her luxury car confidently. Steve begins to think to himself as they drive along. “So, what’s going to happen now? Is this the start of something... big? For some reason, without...Jan, it just doesn’t... feel all that big a deal to me.” Hillary drives up and parks outside a large commercial bookstore. She and Steve get out and head for the store.
