How I Advertised My First Book with Flyers at 4 a.m.

A business presentation card is one of the low budget tools you can use for introducing and advertising your business. To use this method, you must first have a well-designed visiting card. Along with that, you need to print a card named a "presentation card" of about 15 by 10 cm so you can introduce your business in a limited space and distribute the card when attending events, shops and busy locations. This card is more important than a visiting card because you can print more detailed information about your business, your social network IDs and the website address on both sides of the card. Identify the seminars in which the audience is a part of your target market, then give your visiting card and your presentation card to them.

In some countries such as the US and Canada, there are places for free distribution of newspapers and magazines. If there are such places in your country, put your flyers among the press. People take your ads with them along with the magazines and newspapers. In North America, there are also big billboards in front of grocery stores for putting up ads, free to use. The more eligible and professional the flyers, the better the results.

Many years ago, when my first book was just published and I didn't have any money to advertise it, I would go to the main streets at 4 or 5 am and put the poster of the book cover on special boards where flyers could be posted. After doing that, I would go to bookshops at around 10 am and offer my book for sale. That way I was able to sell my book to different people. People had already been aware of my book by seeing the book cover on the boards, which made it easy for them to buy it.

It's not just a matter of money that is important to this method; proper distribution is of great importance. The time you spend to go there, negotiate with the person in charge and post the ads is a part of your budget. Therefore, avoid visiting places which bring no good feedback for you.
